Evaluation of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development
Without an adequate process of monitoring and evaluation it will be impossible to know if the Decade is making any difference, or what that difference is.
A key aspect of monitoring and evaluation will be the identification of suitable, relevant and measurable indicators at every level – local, national, regional and international – and for each initiative and program.
In order to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness, the results of monitoring and evaluation will be used to assess and reorient programs during the course of the Decade. For advocacy purposes, as well as to report publicly on UNDESD progress, UNESCO proposes to publish a report every two years, aimed at a broad audience.
Both qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods will be necessary to track the Decade. As a starting point, the draft Implementation Scheme lists outcomes and potential indicators and kinds of data which could be used to support their verification.
