About the speaker: Richard Welford is an economist by background, has acted as an advisor to the United Nations, and is Chairman and Co-founder of CSR Asia. Richard is also a professor at the University of Hong Kong. He has written on globalization, international business, environmental management, human rights and social responsibility. He has carried out extensive research on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development across the world, making him one of the few people well informed to evaluate exactly the state of play with regards to CSR in Asia. Richard’s clients, amongst others, have included the World Bank, Cathay Pacific, Oxfam, the International Finance Corporation, Disney, CLP, Nike, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and HP.
Richard was one of the early pioneers in developing social audit and reporting methodologies with UK-based organisations such as The Body Shop and IBM in the 1990s. Since then, his work has been increasingly Asian focused as a result of his current position as director of the Corporate Environmental Governance Programme at the University of Hong Kong.
