United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD) 2005–2014
This initiative has now ended. A Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development has been established by the United Nations to follow the UNDESD.

The final assessment report on the UN Decade of ESD tracks the global progress of ESD practices all over the world. It also presents the advancements made throughput the decade, lessons learnt and opportunities for the future of ESD advancement.
Vision
The vision of the Decade is a world where everyone has the opportunity to benefit from education and learning to bring about a transformation in society towards sustainability.

These guidelines cover data collection, reporting mechanisms and examples of ESD indicators. ARIES team members, Daniella Tilbury, Leanne Denby and Jessica North, were involved in the writing and editing of the booklet.
The project to produce the guidelines was led by UNESCO Bangkok and Macquarie University and funded by the Japanese Funds-in-Trust. Assistance was also given by the Commission on Education and Communication of the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
